Project aims to improve adaptive capacity of rural marginal farmers including rural women by introducing Climate Smart Farming Technologies, social engineering and capacity building processes.
Project Overview
Climate change threatens water resources, ecosystems, and rural livelihoods in Himachal Pradesh, with Sirmour district particularly vulnerable due to recurring droughts and water stress. With support from the National Adaptation Fund, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, the State Department of Environment, Science Technology & Climate Change, implemented a long-term programme promoting Climate Smart farming and social interventions. The initiative particularly targeted small and marginal farmers, including rural women, with the objective of reducing climate vulnerability and enhancing resilience.
Targets for Achievements
- Climate Change Vulnerability indexing, mapping & adaptation plans.
- At least 30000 farmers to adopt climate smart packages for drought adaptation.
- 75% of the targeted beneficiaries to adopt recommended package of practices.
- Enhanced water security through soil water conservation measures and micro-irrigation systems at least 26%.
- 1 or 2 Farmer Produce Organizations start their business.
- 1500 progressive framers to adopt and become community level resource persons.
- 700 programmes covering 30000 participants amongst various stakeholders.
- At least 20000 farmers to cover under financial inclusion programme and at least 15000 farmers targeted as beneficiary under weather insurance programme.
