In the context of drought management, a climate-smart package of practices has been adopted and effectively implemented in the project area with the aim of building resilience and ensuring sustainable water use. A series of water harvesting structures have been developed in selected sites to augment irrigation potential, while construction of small ponds, irrigation channels, and micro-irrigation systems has helped optimize water use and minimize wastage. At the community level, modern climate-smart irrigation technologies, such as drip and sprinkler systems, have been introduced to increase water-use efficiency and enhance crop productivity under conditions of scarcity. Small run-off management measures have also been taken up to conserve rainwater, reduce soil erosion, and improve groundwater recharge.

Alongside these water-focused activities, livestock development interventions have been linked strategically with the programme to strengthen farmers’ adaptive capacity, diversify livelihood options, and provide additional resilience against drought impacts. Together, these integrated measures are contributing towards improved water availability, reduced vulnerability of farming households, and more sustainable resource management across the project area.
